Markdown Cleaner privacy policy
Markdown Cleaner is a Chrome extension published by Cowerx. It turns supported web pages or selected text into Markdown. This policy covers the extension; the Cowerx website has its own site privacy policy.
Page content stays on your device
The extension reads a page only when you click its button or choose its menu item on that tab. Conversion runs locally. No page text is uploaded. Pro checks its licence online. The resulting Markdown goes to your clipboard, or to a file if you choose Download. Conversion and licence or event requests do not upload page text, page addresses or browsing history to Cowerx. For Pro Reddit discussions, the extension requests the thread’s available comments from Reddit using the thread URL and your current Reddit session.
What is stored on your device
- If you use Pro, your licence key, verification status and dates of verification attempts and the last active check.
- A random install identifier used for extension events.
These are kept in Chrome's extension storage and removed when you uninstall the extension.
What is sent, and when
- If you use Pro, the extension sends your licence key to mdclean.cowerx.dev to confirm it is active. Checks are limited to once a day while the saved key is unchanged; saving a different key allows a new check. Nothing about the page you are viewing is included.
- The extension sends install, Pro-offer display and checkout-click events to mdclean.cowerx.dev with a random install identifier and the extension version. These never include page content or addresses.
Payments
Pro is sold through Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details under its own privacy policy; Cowerx receives your email address and subscription status, not your card number.
Data handling
We do not sell data or share it for advertising, unrelated purposes or creditworthiness decisions. We do not run code from remote servers.
